Srinagar, Dec 07 (KNO): A police inspector, who was injured in an attack at Eidgah Srinagar on October 29, lost his battle with his life, soon after he was shifted to AIIMS from SKIMS, Soura on Thursday. From October 29 and December 7 (39 days), Masroor Ahmad Wani, a young and dedicated police officer, was on life support at SKIMS, Soura. He was airlifted to AIIMS New Delhi for specialized treatment, but lost his battle with the life, a few hours of his shifting. Wani was seriously injured as a bullet had stuck in his head. A resident of Eidgah, Narwara, Yechpora Srinagar, the young inspector was shot while he was playing cricket at the Eidgah playground. He has left behind his wife and a little daughter. A pall of gloom descended Narwara, Yechpora, Srinagar soon after the news of Wani’s death spread with neighbours and relatives flooding his house. “He was very friendly and helpful by nature. He was always available for his neighbours,” a neighbour told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). Official sources said that the body of the slain would be brought to Srinagar tomorrow at 11 am. Meanwhile, political leaders of J&K condoled the death of inspector Wani. “Deeply saddened to learn of the death of Sub-Inspector Masroor Ahmed Wani. He put up a very brave fight after being injured when he was fired upon by militants in Srinagar recently while he was playing cricket with boys in his neighbourhood. My condolences to his loved ones & his @JmuKmrPolice colleagues. May Allah grant his place in Jannat,” JKNC vice president Omar Abdullah wrote on X, formerly Twitter. Apni Party chief Altaf Bukhari also wrote on X: “Lost for words to express my grief over the loss of Police Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani, who was fatally shot by militants in the Eidgah area of Srinagar in October month. Losing such a young, daring and vibrant cop is too difficult to compensate for! May his soul rest in peace and solace and may the bereaved family be granted with forbearance to endure this irreparable loss.” Imran Raza Ansari also condoled the death of inspector Wani. “Deeply saddened by the loss of @JmuKmrPolice Inspector Masroor Wani Sb in the line of duty. His bravery & dedication to protecting others, will forever be honored. My thoughts are with his family and the entire @JmuKmrPolice during this difficult time.” “We extend our deepest condolences on the tragic loss of Police Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani. His dedication & sacrifice in the line of duty will always be remembered. Our thoughts are with his family, friends & colleagues during this difficult time,” JK People Conference wrote on X—(KNO)
